LUCKNOW: The prime accused in sensational loot of ` 37 lakh from a trading agent in Mahanagar area, allegedly injured himself during police remand on Sunday ‘to avoid rigorous questioning’. He banged his head on a wall and caused injury on his face using an iron grill during the police custody inside Mahanagar police station premises, claim cops.

The accused, Mohd Javed alias Pappu has at least seven criminal cases related to loot and robbery lodged against him. He is also the prime accused in loot with trading agent Sanjay Ag arwal near C- Block of Mahanagar on October 10 last year. His involvement in the loot was confirmed when his three gang members Tarzan, Surendra Singh Chauhan and Lala Bahadur were arrested on November 1 last year. However, the police have failed to recover the amount, as Pappu allegedly had taken away the entire amount after the loot.

Sanjay Nath Tiwari, inspector of Mahanagar police station said the police teams were carrying out raids in his search since November but Pappu had recently surrendered in a court on February 9 in a bid to avoid police interrogation. He said Pappu had surrendered after cancelling his bail in another case and was in jail for the last two weeks. Pappu was taken in remand for three days from February 21 to 23 to quiz him in the loot with the trading agent.

“He apparently wanted to avoid cops’ questioning and intentionally injured himself,” said Tiwari and added, “He first banged his head with the wall when two cops were interrogating him on Sunday afternoon. He then hit his face and head with an iron grill. This led to bleeding.”

The inspector said the accused was then rushed to King George’s Medical University’s trauma centre. However he had not suffered any critical injuries. He said two police constables has been deployed along with him round the clock, as he could again injure himself to foil interrogation bid.
