LUCKNOW: Facing disapproval of their relationship from their respective families, a couple in love ended their lives by hanging themselves from a tree in Mohanlalganj. They had been missing since Saturday night and their bodies were found hanging on Sunday morning barely 500 metres from their houses.

The deceased were identified as Kuldeep Kumar, 20 and Preeti, 19 - both residents of Mohanlalganj’s Gadi Parwal village. Locals told cops that both were neighbours and they were in love with each other for the last few years.

“The families of the deceased were not ready to accept their relationship. Due to this, they had strained relations and the girl’s family fixed her marriage with a youth from Nagram village on March 2,” said a villager.

“The young couple apparently took the extreme step, as they were left with no other option after failing to convince their kin,” he added.

Circle officer ( CO) of Mohanlalganj, Rajesh Nayak said the girl left her house informing her family members that she was going to meet her friend around 10.30 pm.

He said the youth, however, was already waiting for her at his farm outside the village. After meeting there, the duo decided to end their lives, the CO added.

Nayak said the youth’s body was hanging from the tree with the girl’s scarf around his neck while the girl apparently hanged herself by making a knot from another piece of cloth. He said the post-mortem examination reports confirmed that it was a clear-cut case of suicide. The doctors ascertained hanging as the cause of death. He said the bodies had been handed over to the respective families.
