Two chilling cases of children murdering parents for wealth and property have been reported from Mohanlalganj within the past three weeks.

On Saturday, city police arrested Babulal, 48, for the murder of his parents in Gosaiganj’s Katra Bakkash village. One Subash Rawat, who was hired by Babulal to execute the killing, was also arrested.

The octogenarian couple, Dalhi, 83, and his wife Pyara, 80, was found murdered inside their house on Wednesday morning. They were battered to death by the killer, who hit them on their face with a tree branch.

According to Mohanlalganj circle officer (CO) Rakesh Nayak, Babulal had hired Subhash for ` 2 lakh and promised to pay him by selling the land that he would get after his parents’ death. Subhash allegedly had a tainted background and was also involved in the murder of another octogenarian, Maya Ram, in Gosaiganj’s Guddauli village in 2013. He had killed Maya Ram with intent of loot, said the CO.

Nayak said Babulal confessed during interrogation that he had hatched the conspiracy to kill his parents because he was afraid his parents would distribute their property among his five sisters and their grandchildren. Babulal was also willing to marry a second time after his wife’s death two years ago but his parents were reportedly against it, fuelling resentment.

Babulal allegedly revealed that he met Subhash at a liquor shop and discussed the entire plan when he became familiar with the latter. As Babulal was the only son, he believed that the entire property would come to him if they died suddenly.

In a similar incident, one Thakurdeen, 65, was gunned down in Mohanlalganj’s Fattekheda village on April 26. Cops said Thakurdeen’s son Kallu had got him killed to get the parental property.

Kallu’s friend Ramroop Rawat and two hired killers, Sultan Ali and Shera Rawat, were also arrested in the case, while two others are still at large.

Nayak said the deceased’s son hired four killers through a mediator for ` 50,000. Kallu allegedly revealed that he feared losing land worth several lakh rupees, as his father had threatened to disown him when he borrowed some money on the surety of selling a piece of land.
