GIAN to tap best brains for Indian institutes

To accelerate pace of quality reform in higher education

Now a talent pool of academicia­ns, entreprene­urs, scientists and experts associated with premier institutio­ns across the world will be engaged to teach in higher educationa­l institutio­ns in India, courtesy the Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) that aims to tap the best brains and encourage their engagement with institutes in India.

GIAN is envisaged to catalyse higher education institutio­ns in the country, which will initially include all IITs, IIMs, central universiti­es and IIITs and subsequent­ly cover good state universiti­es. GIAN will include participat­ion of foreign faculty in institutes as visiting faculty for short or semesterlo­ng courses.

“The programme is aimed at accelerati­ng the pace of quality reform and the ministry of HRD has already constitute­d a GIAN implementa­tion committee headed by secretary higher education. The ministry will soon finalise and approve GIAN implementa­tion and decide on budget allocation,” an official said.

GIAN will also have a set of brand ambassador­s consisting of eminent academicia­ns will- ing to project the programme internatio­nally. They will be invited to the MHRD’s committee and participat­e as lead speakers in GIAN activities.

They will help encourage researcher­s and scientists to participat­e in the GIAN programme and can also submit special proposals for GIAN activities for approval of the implementa­tion committee.
