GIAN to tap best brains for Indian institutes
To accelerate pace of quality reform in higher education
Now a talent pool of academicians, entrepreneurs, scientists and experts associated with premier institutions across the world will be engaged to teach in higher educational institutions in India, courtesy the Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) that aims to tap the best brains and encourage their engagement with institutes in India.
GIAN is envisaged to catalyse higher education institutions in the country, which will initially include all IITs, IIMs, central universities and IIITs and subsequently cover good state universities. GIAN will include participation of foreign faculty in institutes as visiting faculty for short or semesterlong courses.
“The programme is aimed at accelerating the pace of quality reform and the ministry of HRD has already constituted a GIAN implementation committee headed by secretary higher education. The ministry will soon finalise and approve GIAN implementation and decide on budget allocation,” an official said.
GIAN will also have a set of brand ambassadors consisting of eminent academicians will- ing to project the programme internationally. They will be invited to the MHRD’s committee and participate as lead speakers in GIAN activities.
They will help encourage researchers and scientists to participate in the GIAN programme and can also submit special proposals for GIAN activities for approval of the implementation committee.
