Degrees by UP varsities don’t matter outside: Guv
Expressing concern over the declining quality of higher education in Uttar Pradesh, governor Ram Naik on Saturday said the degrees provided by the state Universities do not hold much significance outside UP.
He blamed the present education system for this dismal scenario.
“It is sordid condition that the degrees provided by UP universities do not hold much importance outside the state,” said Naik while delivering his presidential address on the opening day of the two-day long meet on ‘Condition and direction of higher education in eastern UP,’ at the Diksha Bhavan, DDU Gorakhpur University.
Among various issues that are considered as major hurdle in the improvement of higher education, Naik highlighted issues like shortage of teachers, mass copying, delay in conducting annual examinations and declaring results as major problems before the state universities. He advised universities to overcome these shortages to bring higher education back on track.
“Our efforts has partly brought the higher education back on track with all the state universities hav- ing conducted their convocation on time besides addressing effectively the issue of copying,” said the governor adding that the copying issue in UP was not checked properly due to involvement of influential people. He hailed the Gorakhpur University Teachers’ Association (GUTA) for organising the meet to discuss the issues of importance related to the higher education in east UP.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Narendra Singh Gaur, former minister Government of UP said that the shortage of teachers in the state and central universities was the main reason behind the declining quality of higher education.
