Saif fashions Akhil Infra Red’s win

An all-round performanc­e by Saif (4 wkts, 22 runs) helped Akhil Infra ‘Red’ score a thumping seven-wicket win against Akhil Infra ‘Blue’ in the second league match of the 1st JKP Trophy State Cricket Tournament, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Saturday.

Saif ’s four for 17 helped the side skittle out Akhil Infra ‘Blue’ for paltry 129 in 29.3 overs in a rail curtailed match first and then he struck 27-ball 22, which contained one fours and two sixes to see the side reaching home in 25.5 overs.

Himanshu Asnora remained the top scorer for the winners, hitting 65 in 71 balls, which contained eight fours, whereas Akshdeep Nath made 29-ball 23 with the help of three fours.

Earlier, for Akhil Infra ‘Blue’ Shiva Singh made highest 39, followed by Abhinav Dixit (23) and Shubhansh (20). Besides Saif, spinner Prashant Gupta had two for six.

THRILLING WIN

SDT XI scored a thrilling 12-run win against Floyd XI to collect full points in the Sai Summer League Twenty20 Cricket Tour nament being played for the Pepsi Trophy, at the Sai Greens Ground here on Friday night.

SDT XI 174 for 6 in 20 overs (Karunesh Kumar 77, Sparsh Tewari 26, Devashish Singh 2 for 23) beat Floyd XI 162 for 7 in 20 overs (Shivam Sahu 43, Anshul Garg 38, Ashoo Tewari 2 for 26).

SADIQ SHINES

Sadiq of hosts Lucknow hogged the limelight in the 31st State Taekwondo Championsh­ip, winning first gold for the city, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Saturday. Sadiq excelled in the sub-junior male heavyweigh­t category, finishing top. Vasu Kedia of Lakhimpur bagged silver, while Tushar Singh of Varanasi and Prateek Manjul of Lucknow got bronze medals.

In the sub-junior female light middle weight category, Shreya Singh of Varanasi walked away with the gold medal. She was followed by Shamti of Gorakhpur, Toshi Chauhan of Shamli and Vaishnavi Mishra of Kanpur.
