Cultural evening mesmerises Lucknowite­s at Ganj Carnival

Yet another Sunday saw enthusiast­ic Lucknowite­s coming out on the streets of Hazratganj to enjoy the cultural evening hosted as part of the Ganjing Carnival.

And this week, citizens were in for a cultural and gastronomi­cal treat, as they were greeted with melodious classical music and a kathak performanc­e by students of the Bhatkhande institute along with the addictive aroma of Ganj special chaat and kulfi.

The classical dancers gave an insight into the traditiona­l Lucknawi kathak showcasing its various aspects.

Ruchi Khare, faculty Bhatkhande Music Institute, under whose direction the students performed, said, “We have tried to showcase the traditiona­l dance form -ranging from the kathak performed in temples to Mughal courts and its gradual transition­s.” A Bollywoodi­nspired kathak performanc­e also received wide accolades from the audience.

“Lucknow is known for kathak. Learning from the most prestigiou­s music institute, a performanc­e in the heart of the city of culture Lucknow is a wonderful experience for us.

We are proud that we are showcasing Lucknow’s culture on the streets of Hazratganj,” said a dancer in the group of 12.

Other specialiti­es of the day included a perfor mance by Goonj band and a nukkad natak.

The cultural programmes spread across the Hazratganj street. While play was performed at the Mayfair, the kathak performanc­e was held near the multilevel parking. The band performanc­e was held near Sahu cinemas.

The programme was inaugurate­d by secretary culture, Anita Meshram and district magistrate Raj Shekhar.
