LUCKNOW: Women protesters at the Chhota Imambada continued to stage dharna on Thursday in support of their demand for a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities by Shia Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi.

But their protest was having an adverse impact on tourism in Lucknow. The way visitors were stopped by the protestors sent a wrong message to the world.

I nsiders said t hat Shia women protestors were not ready to understand that being harsh on tourists was bringing a bad name to Lucknow.

Their strategy to force the district administration to initiate a CBI probe against the Shia Waqf Board chairman was not earning them any sympathies.

“Now, people have openly started saying that this is a political and sectarian issue and has nothing to do with the well being of the community,”

said a resident of Old City.

Others in Old City said, “The clash of egos between a Shia cleric and a minister has resulted in the dharna getting extended.”

District ma gistrate Raj Shekhar said the matter was sensitive and he would not like to comment on it, but efforts to get a solution through talks are on.

He said the district administration would not allow the lockout of Chhota Imambada premises again.
