The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), including IIIT-Allahabad, have substantially hiked tuition fee of BTech and MBA courses from July 2015 academic session.

The tuition fee of undergraduate courses has been hiked by around 14% per semester while that of MBA has been raised by around 30%.

Under the revised structure, MBA (sponsored) candidates will also have to pay around 18% more as tuition fee.

The hikes are being implemented following a decision by IIIT council, the apex decisionmaking body of four government-run IIITs. The decision was taken by IIIT council at a meeting held on April 7.

The revised fee structure would become applicable on the students enrolling for the courses on the basis of JEE (mains)-2015 counselling already underway around the country.

The undergraduate revised tuition fee at IIIT-A will now be ` 40,000 per semester instead of ` 35,000 till last year.

BTech student will have to pay an additional ` 40,000 as tuition fee for the four-year course. IIIT-A has also introduced a gymkhana fee component of ` 500 per semester instead of every alternate semester. Earlier, the total fee of BTech course was ` 4,52,500 which has now been hiked to ` 4,94,500.

Likewise, MBA students who till now were paying ` 35,000 per semester as tuition fee would have to shell out ` 50,000 every six months. While MBA (sponsored) candidates will have to pay ` 85,000 as tuition fee alone instead of ` 70,000 as earlier.

IIIT-A has also introduced a gymkhana fee component of ` 500 every semester instead of every alternate semester as till last year.

Earlier, the total fee for MBA course for general candidates was ` 2,32,500 which has been hiked to ` 2,93,500. For sponsored candidates, the fee has been increased from ` 3,72,500 to ` 4,33,500.

Deputy registrar (finance), IIIT-A, OP Srivastava, however, confirmed the move.

He said that the hiked fee would be applicable only on new students. He said that there would be no change in the tuition fee of PhD and MTech courses.
