A police constable, who may face disciplinary action for his journalist son’s reporting on the scam, has allegedly threatened to end his life if any action is taken against him. The constable is suspected of leaking case-related information to his son

A police constable, who may face disciplinary action for his journalist son’s reporting on Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam in Morena district, has allegedly threatened to end his life if any action is taken against him.

Shivpratap Singh Jadon, son of constable Amar Singh Jadon, who works for Hindi daily, had reported that police special branch officials visited the house of scam-accused Anant Thakur who died in 2012, seeking his death certificate.

After the news was published, Amar, who is posted at the district crime record bureau, got a phone call regarding a suspected leak of information to his son.

According to the constable’s family, he was asked to appear before a police officer at the police headquarters on Saturday. The constable came to Bhopal but since he was not in uniform, he was asked to appear again on Monday.

In a conversation with HT, the constable’s wife Laxmi Jadon said: “The father and son are not on talking terms due to their professions”. She said the department officials would suspect her husband’s integrity whenever her son reports a story against the police department and that this had strained relations between the duo, she explained.

Laxmi said, “Before leaving for Bhopal, my husband told me it was quite painful for him that his integrity was suspected due to his son’s job. He said if authorities took action against him he would not come back.”

The constable’s son, journalist Shivpratap Singh Jadon said: “I am extremely upset because my father stopped talking to me as I cover crime. When the team reached MPPEB accused Anant Thakur’s home to collect his death certificate, I was there with some other journalists. My father didn’t give me the information and he cannot think of even sharing any sensitive information with me.”

Despite repeated attempts the district crime record bureau in charge officer Rajendra Prasad couldn’t be contacted.
