State-run engineerin­g colleges to get funds for infrastruc­ture

LUCKNOW: Engineerin­g students can hope to get better facilities on the campus as the state government-run engineerin­g colleges affiliated to the UP Technical University (UPTU) will now be able to go ahead with their plan to boost existing infrastruc­ture.

The finance committee of UPTU has allocated ` 25 crore to the Institute of Engineerin­g and Technology, Lucknow, ` 7 crore to Architectu­re College in Lucknow, ` 10 crore to HBTI, Kanpur, ` 6 crore to UPTTI, Kanpur and ` 5 crore to BIET, Jhansi.

This assistance approved by UPTU will be used to carry out renovation work at hostels, purchase of equipment, upgradatio­n of library and sports facilities.

The state government is all set to develop UPTU as a centre of excellence and set up a memorial dedicated to late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at the upcoming campus of the university in Jankipuram.

In a meeting held here on Monday, the finance committee paved way for developing UPTU as a centre of excellence, as part of an ambitious project of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

In the next two weeks, a detailed report of the plan would be prepared and a special committee under UPTU vice-chancellor Prof VK Pathak would examine it for further action.

Prominent among those at the meeting, included special secretary (technical education) Shivakant Dwivedi and special secretary (finance) VK Singh.
