THE UNIVERSITY ADMN SAID THAT TEACHERS IN SOME OF THE PRIVATE COLLEGES WERE BELOW PAR

Now, private engineering colleges may not be able to appoint substandard and underqualified teachers to teach B Tech students as the Uttar Pradesh Technical University will conduct tests for appointment of teachers. Those who qualify will be eligible to teach in private colleges.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by vice chancellor Prof Vinay Pathak on Wednesday. The university has now tightened noose around the neck of private engineering colleges that often appoint underqualified teachers for less salary to teach B Tech students to maximize their profit.

The university administration said that teachers in some of the private colleges were below par and as a result, students were paying a heavy price for they do not get employment after completing four years of B Tech course. Hence a need was felt to address the problem.

It was resolved that only those candidates could be recruited by private engineering colleges as teachers who had qualified the test conducted by the univer- sity. The candidates for teaching job will be provided with a score card. To begin with, this practice will be followed for the appointment of assistant professor (lecturer) only.

T he university f ur t her resolved that students graduating from engineering colleges are not employable in industry. In fact they are not industry ready. Now university will seek feedback from experts and will try to revamp the course curriculum as it was felt that many of the things taught in classrooms are no more required by the industry.

The students will now be encouraged to take part in various cultural and sports events to be organised by the university which is important for their personality development.
