3 more die, 100 fresh cases

LUCKNOW: Three more patients succumbed to vector-borne diseases on Thursday while over 100 people suffering from high fever were admitted to different hospitals in the city during the day.

Two-year- old Kapil of Gosainganj, Kehrun Nisa of Mal and Tabassum of Wazirganj died while undergoing treatment for Acute Encephalit­is Syndrome (AES) at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. So far, 20 patients have died of AES, high fever and meningitis in city hospitals.

Four patients of high fever died on Saturday, while five others died of AES on Monday, one died of AES on Tuesday, six died of AES on Wednesday and one dengue patient had died last Sunday.

Doctors said the patient load on hospitals was constantly increasing. Nine patients of AES and 20 of suspected dengue were undergoing treatment at Balrampur Hospital while about a dozen patients were under treatment for dengue at the

At least 30 children suffering from viral fever had been admitted to different government hospitals. Emergency wards of Civil, RML, Balrampur hospitals were packed with patients with some of them being adjusted on the floors with extra mattresses.

Dr Omkar Yadav of Lohia hospital said the number of patients coming to the hospital had also increased. Similar was the condition at Balrampur Hospital as patients from other districts like Amethi, Rae Bareli, Sitapur and Hardoi were also reaching there.

“We are shifting patients from emergency to other wards thrice a day but the emergency ward gets full within hours,” said Dr Rajeev Lochan, chief medical superinten­dent, Balrampur Hospital.
