How about doing your work without dumping it on others

A job brings with it either joy or tragedy. When a boss assigns her employee a job, she wants it to be done. And, if it remains undone, the boss’ scolding awaits the employee. So, the best thing is to complete a job in the best possible manner.

At times, it also becomes the cause of happiness and sorrow. The good results of the firm or company bring happiness in the lives of its workers. They get their reward through bonus. But the bad results only bring sorrow in the form of salary deduction.

These days, the job environment has gone from bad to worse. Often when a task is assigned to someone, that person tries to pass it on to someone else by making lame excuses. I don’t understand why people do that. Why can’t we stop passing our work to others, and just do our duty joyfully? The great philosopher Immanuel Kant once said, “Duty for the sake of duty.” The one who does a duty must not have a vested interest or motive in doing a job. It has to be done with selflessness, goodwill, service-mindedness and for the wellbeing of humanity at large.

In this context, I am reminded of a story about four people, named — Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realised that Everbody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. So at least, let us do something about it!
