LUCKNOW: Shopping turned out to be a terrible experience for the family of a private firm manager, which lost a handbag containing cash and valuables worth ` 5.30 lakh inside a city mall on Sunday evening.

The bag was allegedly stolen when the manager Ashish Bajpai, his wife Abhiruchi Bajpai and kids were in the store of a hypermarket chain in a prominent mall in Krishna Nagar area.

The police have failed to get any clue in the theft through video footage of CCTVs installed in the mall and are further probing the matter.

Vijay Yadav, SO of Krishna Nagar police station, said the theft was not substantiated after scanning the video footage of the CCTVs installed inside the mall.

The couple, however, said that the view of several places in the mall was not available in the footage.

They alleged that the thieves were apparently aware about the locations not covered by the CCTVs.

Abhiruchi told the cops the bag was stolen on the ground floor at around 8pm.

She said the bag contained around ` 1.80 lakh cash and gold jewellery worth ` 4.5 lakh. She said she carried her jewellery while marketing, as she feared a theft in the house. She said there were frequent thefts in her locality in LDA Colony on Kanpur Road.

She said her two mobile phones and house keys were also in the bag.

The police registered an FIR of theft against unknown persons on the basis of the woman’s complaint.

Cops have sought the list of employees present in the store when the incident took place and are verifying their credentials.
