Here panchayat poll is a family affair!

nephew, daughter-in-law, niece and brother-in-law will contest election from Etawah-Mainpuri

- Pankaj Jaiswal

Three family members and a close relative of Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Mulayam Singh Yadav are entering the electoral fray in the upcoming panchayat elections in state. All the four would be contesting from the EtawahMainpuri—Yadav clan’s ancestral districts and pocket borough for various elections.

Mulayam’s daughter-in-law and Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap Singh Yadav’s mother Mridula Yadav is contesting elections to become a block development council (BDC) member. Her ambition to become a block pramukh is likely to be fulfilled as elected BDC members elect a block pramukh from among themselves. Earlier, Tej Pratap was the Saifai block pramukh and before him late Raveer Singh Yadav was held the post.

The other new entrant into politics is Anshul Yadav, nephew of Mulayam. He is contesting the zila panchayat member’s election from Saifai with an aim to eventually become zila panchayat chairman. Elected zila panchayat members elect a zila panchayat chairman from amongst themselves.

Sheela Yadav, niece of Mulayam and also the sister of Badaun MP Dharmendra Yadav would be contesting for the zila panchayat member’s post from Jaswant Nagar (in Mainpuri) while Ajant Singh, brother-inlaw of Mulayam, would be contesting BDC member’s election from Basrehar (Etawah) with an ambition to become the block pramukh.

Of all these, there are plans of the Yadav family to groom Anshul for bigger electoral politics just the way it did with Tej Pratap Singh Yadav. Anshul’s mother Prem Lata Yadav—who currently is the zila panchayat chairperson of Saifai would not contest the elections this time.
