Now, VHP’s Gau Raksha cell gears up for march to Dadri
Leaders and activists of VHP’s Gau Raksha cell are gearing up to organise a march to Dadri to oppose cow slaughter and thereafter stage a sit-in over the issue.
Vasudev Patel, the cell’s organisational secretary (sangathan mantri) for UP and Uttarakhand, would convene a meeting of office-bearers of western UP next week in Dadri to finalise the blueprint of the movement.
“I am likely to visit Dadri on Sunday to hold a meeting with our men to finalise our movement against cow slaughter,” said Patel explaining that his activists would march to Dadri against ‘slaughtering of cows’ and thereafter sit on dharna. He alleged that the state government was patronising people involved in cow slaughter.
The cell runs three parishads, which were formed in 1996 and known as Bhartiya Gau Vansh Raksha Evam Samvardhan Samiti, Gau Vansh Maans Niryat Virodh Parishad and Rashtriya Gau Raksha Andolan.
The Samvardhan Samiti’s objective is to protect and do research on cows so that they could be useful in enhancing income of farmers and cattlekeepers.
On the other hand, the Maans Niryat Virodh Parishad’s job is to oppose export of beef and other meat from the country.
“Their work is to oppose export of meat and slaughter houses by adopting different ways of protests,” explained Patel appreciating the initiatives of the activists associated with Gau Raksha Andolan.
“Many youngsters are associated with the andolan and they are doing a great job in protecting cows from butchers,” said Patel who has directed leaders to constitute active and effective ‘Gow Raksha Samitis’ at the district level.
“We have samitis at district level but at many locations they are not very active. After the Dadri incident, we are trying to activate them in every district of western UP”, said Sudarshan Chakra, VHP’s organisational secretary of Meerut.
Chakra appreciated the Gau Raksha Cell’s young activists who helped cops in catching illegal transportation of animals taken for slaughter.
