Younger son’s statement crucial

The police are waiting to record the statement of Danish, the younger son of Ikhlaq, who is recuperati­ng at a Noida hospital. The police said Danish’s testimony would be critical to nailing the accused in the lynching of his father since he is an eyewitness to the violent incident reported on the night of September 8.

Subodh Kumar Singh, the investigat­ing officer, said he was in touch with the doctors to get their permission to record Danish statement in front of a magistrate.

“His statement is important as it will help to establish involvemen­t of accused in the case. Victim’s mother, sister and his younger son Danish are the key witnesses in the case,” Singh said.

According to the hospital, all vital organs of the 21-year-old are functionin­g normally. “His breathing tube was removed and he was fed water through mouth for the first time after the surgery. His pulse and blood pressure was normal,” said Dr Varun Bhargav, senior neurosurge­on, Kailash Hospital.

The police said initial probe into the case has establishe­d involvemen­t of 10 accused in the case.

“Danish’s testimony under section 164 CrPC would help us prepare a strong chargeshee­t against the accused,” said Sanjay Singh, Superinten­dent of Police (Rural).
