Methodology to groom senior leaders

-

As many as 80% companies in India use or are planning to use executive coaching as a methodology to develop senior leaders. Nearly 58% of CEOs and HR heads believe that personalised coaching is a more effective tool in developing senior leaders than a B-school residential programme, says the EY-NHRDN (Ernst and Young - National HRD Network) study in India — a comprehensive attempt to understand the relevance and effectiveness of executive coaching in preparing leaders to sustain and grow businesses in volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) times.

The purpose of this study is to gather a deeper understanding about the practice of executive coaching in organisations and the results of such programmes. More specifically, the key questions this study is designed to answer are: Given its traditional adaptation from the West, do Indian leaders now need an Indianised version of coaching, how and in what ways is executive coaching going to be more effective in developing senior leaders in India? What should be the evolving responsibilities of key stakeholders (coach, coachee, HR, reporting manager) to maximise the effectiveness of coaching etc? Over 100 leading organisations and independent coaches participated in the study.

Another trend was that 100% of respondents believe that the relevance and acceptance of executive coaching has increased in the last five years. As many as 58% of CEOs and HR heads believe that personalised coaching is a more effective tool in developing senior leaders than a B-school residential programme. “
