Army’s signal unit team begins mountain biking expedition today
The Central Command Air Support Signal Unit (CCASSU) of Indian Army is organising an adventurous seven-day mountain biking expedition in the Kumaon hills from Monday to commemorate 15th Reunion and 105th Raising Day of the Corps of Signals.
The expedition under the aegis of HQ Central Command Signals (also known as Surya Sancharaks) would be jointly flagged off by Lt Gen AJS Bhalla, ADC, ex SO-in-C (retd) and Major General VG Ramakrishnan, chief signals officer, HQ Central Command at Nainital.
The team of Mountain Terrain Cycles led by Maj Sumant Kumar Sharma of CCASSU will cover approximately 600 km from Nainital to Munsiyari and back by November 8.
Apart from Sharma, the team includes a JCO and 10 personnel of other ranks. All team members are volunteers from various units of HQ Central Command Signals. During the expedition, the team will also interact with Army veterans, carry out plantation drive and distribute gifts to various schools and hospitals on their route.
The Corps of Signals is the technical unit which ensures electronic and information superiority of the Indian Army. The Corps, which embarked on its journey on February 15, 1911, is a multi-dimensional force which provides a robust broadband and secure information technology infrastructure to the Indian Army.
The Corps of Signals is also the flag bearer of many adventure activities such as ‘Dare Devils’ motorcycle display team and martial arts Kalaripayattu which have brought laurels to the Indian Army.
