LUCKNOW: Train passengers can now avail of the ‘Vikalp’ facility, under which wait-listed travellers can get confirmed berths in alternate trains, if they had opted for the choice while booking the ticket online.

The Northern Railways (NR) has introduced this passengerfriendly scheme on a trial basis in two of its trains. “We have introduced the scheme in Lucknow Mail and Kashi Vishwanath Express - the most sought-after trains of NR,” said Ajit Sinha, senior divisional commercial manger (DCM), NR, Lucknow.

Sinha further informed that for now the scheme was available only for online users and would be introduced at the ticket booking windows later.

“One can opt for ‘Vikalp’ at the time of securing berths online. Clicking on the option would ensure that the berths get allocated to the respective passengers in alternate trains, if the passengers remain in the waiting list,” Sinha explained.

The alternate train for Lucknow Mail is AC Special train while for Kashi Vishwanath Express it is Padmavat Express.

Officials informed that if a good response was witnessed for the scheme, it would be extended to cover other trains / routes as well.
