Step up anti-trafficking measures, says SWC
SECRETARY ANITA VERMA SINGH TOLD MEMBERS TO CHECK THE FUNCTIONING OF ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING UNITS IN DISTRICTS
LUCKNOW: Finally taking a tough stance against human trafficking, the state women commission on Monday directed its members to submit reports on the status of trafficking in their districts.
Secretary Anita Verma Singh told members to check the functioning of anti-human trafficking units in their districts and ensure that helpline numbers were thoroughly advertised.
She also urged members to check the status of close circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at Indo-Nepal borders.
The issue was discussed at length during a workshop at the State Women Commission on Monday, when Manav Seva Sansthan of Gorakhpur presented the current situation, trends and practical problems faced in the state.
Members said the porous borders of UP and Nepal had always been crucial points of trafficking. However, now that the state government had formed special task forces to combat trafficking and taken initiatives like installation of cameras on the borders and display of helpline numbers, members hoped the situation would get better.
The commission also asked the police and district administration to look into the implementation of the state’s initiatives to check trafficking in the state. A film on the cases of trafficking in Uttar Pradesh was also showcased by the Manav Seva Sansthan on the occasion.
