‘Rajan may be deported in 2 days’

-

Gangster Chhota Rajan may be deported to India in the next two days, sources told HT. An Indian team comprising Mumbai and Delhi police officials and CBI sleuths is in Indonesia’s tourist destination Bali, where Rajan was arrested on October 25.

The team carried all necessary police and court documents and records on Rajan (55) that would be required to take his custody and bring him back including a warrant of arrest and a dossier on 80-odd cases against him in India in Maharashtra and Delhi including those pertaining to murder, gunrunning and extortion in which he will stand trial.

“Rajan is likely to be deported to India as early as by Tuesday or maximum up to Wednesday. If the lawyer engaged by Rajan does not oppose his deportation to India, then there will no hurdle in deportation. Our officials during their examination of Rajan in Bali got the impression that he will oppose the deportation,” said a senior government official requesting anonymity.

As there is no extradition treaty between two countries, Indian authorities have to prove Rajan’s identity to their Indonesian counterparts and the fact that he is wanted in criminal cases.
