Sports Minister to chair TOPs review meeting
ON NOVEMBER 6, THE SPORTS MINISTER WILL CHAIR A MEETING TO REVIEW THE SCHEME THAT HAS BEEN HIT BY A SPATE OF RESIGNATIONS.
On paper, it is just another review meeting. But it assumes significance in the light of Anurag Thakur’s resignation as chairman from TOPs talent identification committee.
On November 6, sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal will chair a meeting to review the scheme that has been hit by a spate of resignations.
“He will review the progress of TOPs scheme and one of the agendas is to try and find a replacement for Thakur,” said a source.
Thakur had resigned saying his job was done as all the athletes had been identified for the scheme and that he had very little time to devote to the scheme after his elevation to the post of BCCI secretary.
Beijing Olympic Games gold medallist Abhinav Bindra too had resigned for paucity of time as he wanted to devote more time to his Rio Games preparations.
