16 kids injured as live wire falls on school campus

VARANASI: Sixteen children suffered burn injuries, three of them seriously, when a high tension overhead wire snapped and fell on the premises of Kuhki Primary School in Mirzapur on Tuesday morning. The injured kids were rushed to a private hospital in Patehra from where the seriously injured were referred to district hospital. After undergoing treatment their condition is said to be stable.

As many as 16 children suffered burn injuries, three of them seriously, when a high tension overhead wire snapped and fell on the premises of Kuhki Primary School in Mirzapur on Tuesday morning.

The injured kids were rushed to a private hospital in Patehra from where the seriously injured were referred to district hospital. After undergoing treatment their condition is said to be stable.

According to school head master Ashok Kumar, the incident happened as soon as the students went for their classes in the morning.

He said the wire, which was in very bad shape, snapped and fell on the ground.

Since it was live, the current spread and the children were trapped.

Kumar along with other teachers somehow rescued the children and rushed them to a private hospital at Patehara from where they were referred to Primary Health Centre.

Six children were discharged from the hospital after being given primary treatment while those with severe injuries were referred to district hospital.

On getting informatio­n, parents reached the district hospital and raised slogans against the lax power department officials.

Sub-divisional magistrate Jaynendra Singh and circle officer Sanjay Chaudhary reached the spot and assured strict action against the erring officials.

Singh said a case will be registered against the officials.

The head master claimed that the wire was in a very bad shape and he had requested the power department officials to replace it two years ago. But no action was taken.
