Shashank’s spell puts ASCA in final

LUCKNOW: A five-wicket haul by Shashank Verma guided Abhijeet Sinha Cricket Academy (ASCA) crushed Lucknow Cricket Academy’s Hostel by 10 wickets to make it to the final of the Under-14 Bachpan Trophy Cricket Tournament, at the LDA Stadium here on Tuesday. Shashan took five for 15 as LCA Hostel collapsed for paltry 40 in 13.2 overs. Anil Kumar had two for 11. In reply, ASCA romped home in just 4.5 overs without losing a wicket.

COLLEGIATE CRICKET Islamia PG College stormed into the quarterfin­als of the 17th Chandra Bhanu Gupt Memorial Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament for Amit Singh Chauhan Trophy, beating Maharishi University by three wickets here on Tuesday. In other match of the day, Shia PG College got a walk-over from Lucknow Christian College, which failed to turn up.

JCC TRIUMPH Jyoti Cricket Club defeated LCA Academy by four wickets to enter final of the Dusherra Trophy Cricket Tournament, at the Chowk Stadium here on Tuesday. LCA Academy made 164 in 39.5 overs while batting first after winning the toss. In reply, JCC despite losing wickets on regular intervals, managed to reach home in 36 overs.

MANISH HITS TON Manish Singh struck 89-ball 101 with the help of 11 fours as Awadh Sky Cricket Academy defeated Gulmohar Cricket Academy by six wickets in a league match of the Awadh Sky Trophy Cricket Tournament, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Tuesday. DISTRICT CARROM It was a day of convincing wins in the District Carom Championsh­ip, at the Irrigation Sports Club here on Tuesday. Tanveer beat Shanu 23-22, 25-11 to make it to the singles semi-finals. In other quarterfin­als, Shavez Agha beat Sikandar 26-2, 25-18, Hasim beat Azam 20-10, 23-11, and Jitendra Singh beat Ranu Alam 25-8, 25-17.

OPEN CHESS Top rated players got off to a flying start in the Avinash Chandra Chaturvedi Memorial Lucknow University Open Chess Tournament, notching up convincing wins here at LU on Tuesday. After the completion of second round, Devendra Bajpai, Pawan Batham, Hemant Sharma, Ravi Shankar, Ashu Verma, David Yung, PS Mehta, Sunil Srivastava, Vishal Pal, Ramesh Kumar Gautam, Saurabh Tiwari, Ritikesh and Mohammad Tufail Ahmad (2 pts each) were leading.
