LUCKNOW: Young leggie from city Zeeshan Ansari has stepped forward for a berth in the Indian squad for the 2016 Under-19 ICC Youth World Cup on Tuesday as he was chosen in the Indian under-19 squad to play a triseries, involving Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Lanky seamer Shubham Mavi from Meerut too has been inducted in the side. The tri-series is followed by under-19 Asia Cup, and if the two UP boys do well in these events, would certainly be taking a flight for the Bangladesh, where the World Cup would be played next year.

Both Zeeshan and Mavi did justice to their selections in two different teams at the just concluded Under-19 Challenger Series at Pune. “I am quite excited and looking for an excellent showing in the tri-series and the Asia Cup, if given a chance,” Ansari told HT soon after finding a place in the Indian squad. Ansari, who had 62 wickets last season in the domestic matches, including 18 in under23 matches, claimed that his first mission would be to make the cut in the 16-member squad for the World Cup. “Once I am in the team, will try to win matches as well as World Cup for the side,” said Ansari, who hails from Aliganj locality and being trained at the LDA Coaching Centre under the watchful guidance of Gopal Singh.

“He (Zeeshan) is a dedicated boy in the game and he never dares to challenge the batsmen with his leg spins,” said Gopal, adding, “I am quite sure that he (Ansari) would make it to the World Cup squad by doing wonders at the tri-series and the Asia Cup matches.”
