LUCKNOW: A 38-year-old woman was allegedly killed over resisting loot bid here in Chinhat area on Wednesday afternoon.

The unidentified assailants had strangulated the woman after barging into her house. The entire house was found ransacked. However, cops rejected the loot theory and stated that there was some other motive behind the murder.

The incident took place when the victim woman identified as Devanti Kushwaha was alone at her semi-constructed house in Chinhat Jonabagh locality between 10am and 1pm. Her husband Bheemwali had gone to his work place at a pipe and tank manufacturing factory on Dewa road while her three kids Durgesh (17), Khusbu (11) and Anuj (5) were in their school.

Satya Sen, circle officer (CO) of Gomti Nagar said, “The incident came to light when the deceased’s husband returned home at lunchtime at around 1pm.” He said the deceased’s husband told cops that the main door of the house was found open when he returned home and the two rooms were entirely ransacked, as if the assailants had searched the entire house thoroughly.

Sen said the woman was lying dead on the floor and her saree was entangled around her neck, which suggested that she was strangulated to death. He said the body however has been sent for postmortem to confirm the cause of death.

He said the deceased’s husband alleged that the woman was murdered by unknown assailants, who apparently barged into the house with an intention of loot. He said initial probe suggested he assailants had apparently tried to mislead investigators by posing loot a motive behind the incident. The probe also suggested that the assailant would have been familiar with deceased, as there is no forced entry in the house, he added.

The CO said the dog squad and finger print experts have been called to examine the crime scene but so far no substantial clues have been found.

He said the woman’s neighbour Shiv Kumar, who stays alone in his house and two other locals are being quizzed in the matter.
