UP police forms team to combat social media misuse

LUCKNOW: The state police have constituted a core team of the senior police officers to prepare a strategy to counter hate posts on the social media.

ADG (law and order), ADG technical services, ADG traffic, IG STF and IG ATS have been appointed the members of the core team. A meeting of the senior police officers IGs and DIGs was held under the chairmanship of DGP, Jagmohan Yadav on Wednesday to review the law and order as well as preparation for the gram pradhan election.

IG (law and order) A Satish Ganesh said in the meeting the police officers expressed concern over the misuse of the social media to flare up communal tension. It was decided to constitute a core team of the senior officers under the chairmanship of DGP to draft strategy to counter the hate post, he said.

The team will identify places where law and order situation had been vitiated due to misuse of social media.” It will observe the response of the police. The focus will be also on capacity building through training. The team will also prepare strategy to launch counter offensive. The aim is counter post immediately to check the anti social elements from disturbing communal harmony, he said.

“The core team will prepare a concept paper as to how social media has opened a new dimension and how can one check the problems arising out of it,” he said . Recently CM Akhilesh Yadav had expressed concern over the misuse of social media.
