LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party corporator Atul Yadav alias Bantu succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning after remaining in coma for six days at the KGMU Trauma Centre, where he was undergoing treatment.

Bantu Yadav was shot at from point blank range on November 1 near his house while he was attending a funeral. The bullet had pierced through his skull.

Cops arrested history-sheeter of Narhi Shiv Yadav and his associate Vaishanv the day after the sensational attack.

Later, on Shiv Yadav’s tip-off, Shaan Ahmad and Sarkar Ahmad alias Mundar, both close associates of renowned city builder Siraj Iqbal, were also arrested.

The builder, who is accused as the main conspirator behind Bantu’s murder, is still untraceable. After struggling for life for six days, Bantu died at around 4am. He is survived by his wife Durgesh Nandini and daughters Cheena,5, and Gauri,3.

As the news of Bantu’s death spread in Narhi, people started arriving at his residence. After the post mortem examination, the body reached his residence at around 12 noon.

A large contingent of police was deployed in Narhi as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.

All shops and commercial establishments in the area were closed. A large number of people turned up for Bantu’s funeral procession, which included both women and the elderly.

For around half an hour, the body was kept outside Bantu’s house and thereafter taken to his nearby shop and party office after traversing through narrow lanes and bylanes of Narhi.

Thereafter, the funeral procession walked all the way to the Bhainsakund crematorium.

Rajendra Chaudhary, senior party leader and state spokesperson of the Samajwadi Party, was present at the cremation ground.

Mayor Dinesh Sharma, municipal commissioner Uday Raj Singh, Samajwadi Party MLA Sharda Prasad Shukla and a large number of corporators and SP leaders were also present at the cremation ground.

Resentment among corporators was clearly visible. Even Shiv Yadav’s arrest had failed to douse their simmering anger. They demanded immediate arrest of builder Siraj Iqbal, the main conspirator behind Bantu Yadav’s murder.

Family members of the deceased corporator have also named builder Siraj Iqbal as main conspirator behind the murder in the FIR lodged with the cops.

However, even after six days of the incident cops have not been able to arrest the builder.

Now, fingers are being pointed at the cops for trying to shield the builder.
