United Kingdom’s fl agship car rier British Airways found itself under attack from fans of Sachin Tendulkar on Friday after the Indian cricket great complained on Twitter about the airline’s poor service.

Known to keep his calm on the cricket field, an irate Tendulkar accused British Airways of a “don’t care attitude” and said they had tagged his luggage to the wrong destination.

Tendulkar wrote two angry posts on Twitter. “Angry, Disappointed and Frustrated. #BAdserviceBA Family member’s Waitlisted ticket not confirmed despite seats being available,” wrote the 42-year-old, adding, “And luggage being tagged by @British_Airways to wrong destination and don’t care attitude! #NeveronBA.”

MASTER’S RESPONSE

The airline responded by asking Tendulkar to send them a direct message containing his ‘full name and baggage reference number’, inviting ire from Tendulkar’s 8.41 million followers.

That kicked off an avalanche of angry tweets informing the airline about Tendulkar’s stature in India. While someone said, “British Airways SACHIN is the God for the game which your people have invented,” some fans threatened to abandon the airline for life.

A BA spokesperson confirmed the incident. “We are very sorry for the inconvenience that has been caused to our customer’s recent travel plans. We are directly in contact with our customer to resolve the issue,” read a statement issued by the airline.

The BBC subsequently reported that British Airways was the top trend on Twitter India, with politicians also weighing into the row. Although now retired from top-flight cricket, the 42-year-old Tendulkar who has recently been taking part in an exhibition tour in the United States, remains arguably the most famous of all living Indians.
