ICBAFM-2015 begins

A three-day Internatio­nal Conference on Biotechnol­ogical Advancemen­ts in Free Radical Biology and Medicine (ICBAFM-2015) started at Integral University on Saturday. The conference will continue till Monday. The chief guest on the occasion was Prof Hasan Mukthar, a Helfaer Professor of Cancer Research, University of Wisconsin, USA while Prof Alok Dhawan, director, CSIR- Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow was the distinguis­hed guest of honour. Other guests included Prof Michael Nishimura from Loyola University Medical Centre, Chicago, USA, Prof Vladimir N Silnikov, ICBFM, Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirs­k, Russia and Prof. Tariq Haqqi from Northeast Ohio Medical University, Ohio, USA. Vice chancellor Prof SW Akhtar in his inaugural address stressed on the need for scientific inquiry. While lauding the worthy efforts of scientists, he exhorted them to brace up to the newly emerging challenges. Prof Hasan Mukhtar said this three-day workshop would be very useful for research scholar and students to discuss the recent developmen­ts in this emerging area of science. Prof. Alok Dhawan said that the theme of the conference would provide a vibrant platform to the profession­als working in the field to exchange informatio­n, discuss and debate on the advances made in the field for mutual benefit. Prof Michael Nishimura said immunother­apy had recently become a major area of interest in cancer therapy and one of the biggest obstacles was the suppressiv­e tumor environmen­t.
