I am coming back to power and those insensitive to the state government’s priorities should be ready to face the music AKHILESH YADAV, Uttar Pradesh chief minister

Confident of a second innings after having seen Nitish Kumar defeat anti-incumbency in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday cautioned officers against laxity and trying to make him ‘jobless’.

“I am coming back to power and those insensitive to the state government’s priorities should be ready to face the music,” he said at a meeting of divisional commissioners, principal secretaries of various departments and a dozen district magistrates here on Saturday.

“There should not be any misunderstanding among the officers that my government will not retain power in the coming assembly election. The political scenario in the country has changed fast and ruling parties have been able to overcome anti-incumbency,” he said, adding that the Samajwadi Party would retain power.

He made it clear: “I will not tolerate the officers who are trying to make me jobless. I will take strict action against the lax officers as well as those who have failed to give a thrust to development projects and welfare schemes launched by the state government. It clearly indicates that such officers wish to derail the development plank of the state government.”

A senior officer, who refused to be named, said, “The lax officers will be identified and shunted out. The performers will be posted to complete projects on schedule as just over a year is left for the 2017 assembly election. Akhilesh Yadav wishes to follow in the footsteps of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and face the electorate with a pro-development image,” he said.

Political observer Manoj Kumar Singh said, “The NDA’s defeat in the Bihar election has given a boost to regional parties — the SP and the BSP. Nitish succeeded in overcoming anti-incumbency. Akhilesh too wishes to stop the BJP juggernaut with the development and good governance plank. He requires officers who are competent in order to maintain law and order as well as to complete projects.”
