Bahraich tense after cow slaughter

An incident of cow slaughter in Rana-Gadra forest caused tension in the Vishweshwarganj area of Bahraich district on Saturday. Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and police personnel have been deployed in the area following the incident.

Additional superintendent of police Arvind Bhusan Pandey said one person was taken into custody and an FIR registered against three persons under the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955. The situation was under control, he added. Trouble arose on Saturday when villagers raised an alarm on seeing some persons slaughtering a cow in a field. Soon, other villagers gathered on the spot. While the others fled, villagers managed to nab one Chand.
