Naik: Need to propagate views of Maulana Azad

-

LUCKNOW: Governor Ram Naik said here on Thursday that today, there was need to widely publicise the views of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, as he always stood for unity and integrity of the country.

The Governor was addressing a seminar organised by the National Urdu Development Council to pay homage to Maulana Azad.

Several noted Urdu scholars also attended the event.

Naik, who was the chief guest of the programme, said Maulana Azad seemed to have been forgotten after independence. But his views were relevant even today as he always advocated communal harmony.

The governor also administered the oath of national unity and integrity to those present in the seminar, saying it would be a fitting tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary today, as well as to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

“India is a country where Hindus, Muslims and other communities live together and all benefit from each other. It is up to us how we interpret the ideas of Maulana Azad and guide our younger generation. The scholars should propagate his ideas in society in a manner so that everyone is benefited,” Naik said.

In the inaugural session, the Governor released a book in Urdu ‘Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a Mutaleya’ written by professor Abdus Sattar Dalvi of Mumbai.

Also present on the occasion were chairman, Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy Nawaz Deobandi, professor Sharif Rudaulvi, professor Rizwan Qaiser, Chancellor, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Urdu Arabic-Persian University, Lucknow Dr Khan Masud and head of the department, mass communication, Aligarh Muslim University M Shafey Kidwai.
