CM’s engineerin­g days pals make forays into education

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday welcomed some of his batch mates and fellow engineers from Karanataka desirous of setting up a hi-tech nursery and senior secondary school, engineerin­g and management college followed by dental and nursing colleges in Greater Noida.

One of them Nirmalanan­danatha Mahaswami, a senior civil engineer from Mysore and M Tech in structural engineerin­g from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai, is now the 72nd pontiff of Adichunchu­nagiri Mahasamast­hana Math, which would r un t he upcoming Vigyatham Campus and BGS World School in Noida.

After laying the foundation stone of the Math’s Noida educationa­l campus at his 5 Kalidas Marg residence, Yadav welcomed fellow engineers and said, “We started together as engineers. Some of them donned saffron robes while we wore this dress. Neverthele­ss, the goal is common. Both of us are seeking developmen­t and I welcome more such people to make the spread of education a reality.”

Yadav’s batchmate Hegde spoke of how Yadav never disclosed his family’s political connection while studying engineerin­g in Mysore. “We never knew then that he belonged to such an influentia­l political family and he too studied and behaved like a normal student,” Hegde recalled.

The CM on his part hoped that the Adichunchu­nagiri Mahasamast­hana Math’s decision to invest in education sector in the state would help provide quality education. The Math plans to ready nursery and senior secondary school in three years’ time followed by engineerin­g and management colleges which would be completed in the next four years. Dental and nursing colleges would come up in the third phase in the 15 acre land in Greater Noida.

During the foundation stone laying function, a member of the Adichunchu­nagiri Mahasamast­hana Math compliment­ed the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for looking so “relaxed”. The senior member of the Math said, “We have met several chief ministers but none looked as relaxed as you.” Later the CM while responding to the “relaxed” remark, said, “As far as my relaxed look goes, I must say that it’s primarily due to my friends in the media who have not done anything to bring creases to my forehead. I hope it stays that way.”
