The state police have directed superintendents of police to redress the grievances of police constables on priority.

Around 3 lakh constables have threatened to launch a statewide stir from next month in protest against poor service condition and delay in the fulfilment of their pending demands.

Fearing that the agitation by the constables may lead to disobedience in the force, the intelligence units have been also directed to keep tabs on the activities of the jawans particularly those of Rakshak Kalyan Dal that is leading the movement.

Inspector general of police (law and order) A Satish Ganesh said advisory has been sent to all the superintendents of police regarding handling of the police constables’ protest movement. “The SPs have been told to look into the grievances of the jawans and fulfil their genuine demands. The district police chiefs should look into the issues like payment of allowances, leave and housing of the jawans,” he said.

An of f i ce bearer of t he Rakshak Kalyan Dal, Brijendra Yadav said the police constables from civil police, the provincial armed constabulary (PAC), the prantiya raksha dal (PRD) and even homeguard jawans would join the movement.

“They will lodge their protest against inhuman working condition and delay in the fulfilment of their long pending demands. We drew the attention of the senior officers toward our problems but there was no assurance. The police constables are left with no other option but to launch the agitation,” he said.
