Shreya stars in Sports Hostel win

LUCKNOW: A spirited Shreya struck back-to-back goals to help favourites Sports Hostel outplay Sports Authority of India by 3-0 to collect full points in the 1st Women Lucknow Hockey League, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Thursday.

Playing true to their reputation, Hostel girls dominated the proceeding­s from the word go. Mumtaz put the side ahead with a field goal in the seventh minute (1-0). Thereafter, SAI girls staged some fine display in defence and kept the rivals at bay for some times. But that defence wall was broken soon as Shreya struck her first goal in the 28th minute to take the tally to 2-0, before striking the second one in the 33rd minute. RDSO LOSE AGAIN The poor run of the hosts RDSO continued even on the third day of the 72nd All-India Inter-Railway Football Championsh­ip here on Thursday as they lost to East Cost Railway by 0-4 on their home ground. In other matches of the day, East Central Railway beat North Eastern Railway 2-0, Eastern Railway beat West Central Railway 1-0, Central Railway beat defending champions Western Railway by 1-0, metro Railway, Kolkata beat South East Central Railway by 1-0 and rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala outplayed Northern Railway by 3-0. SCHOOL CRICKET Dabble College scored a thrilling five-run win against St Mary’s Inter College to make it to the second round of the Inter-School Cricket Tournament, at the Multi Activity Ground here on Thursday. Batting first after winning the toss, Dabble College managed 145 for five in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, St Mary’s Inter College could muster 140 for eight in 20 overs. In other matches of the day, LMC defeated Rasphil Academy by 67 runs, whereas St Dominic Savio College beat Horner College by 10 wickets. SPORTS MEET The two-day sports meet for all India civil services and central services begins on Friday, at the Civil Services Institutes at Raj Bhawan here. During the meet events like badminton, tennis, carom, swimming, squash, billiards, golf, chess, table tennis and tug of war would be organised. SELECTION TRIALS Trials to pick up district junior girls hockey team will be held on Friday, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here at 1.00 p.m. This will be followed by the regional trials at 2.00 p.m. at the same venue. The selected team then would be participat­ing in the state level tournament to be played at Deoria from November 24 to 29. Meanwhile, the district weightlift­ing/boxing tournament­s for junior boys will be held on Friday and Saturday at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here. Boys below 19 years of age are eligible to participat­e in the event. Interested must report at 9.00 a.m. on Friday. FINE START The four-day 1st Indira Gandhi Memorial Girls Shooting Competitio­n got off to a fine start at Johri in Baghpat. The event is being sponsored by Sonalika, Internatio­nal Tractors Limited. The competitio­n is dedicated to motivate young potential girls who are devoid of resources but have capability to soar high in life. The organisati­on has also sponsored six girls, who have qualified for the nationals to be held at Delhi next month. They include, Vidhi, Nisha Khokher, Kajal Khokher, Shivani, Aakanksha Arya, Tanu Chaudhary and Sonam Malik.
