A 22-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in a Nagram village on the intervening night on Saturday and Sunday.

The woman’s body was found lying on the floor when her parent reached there after getting information about the incident. Police have registered an FIR for dowry murder against her husband, who is missing after the incident.

The deceased, Vijay Laxmi, was married to farmer Ram Sumiran on May 25, 2012.

Her father Ram Sagar alleged that Ram Sumiran had been torturing his daughter for the past three years for dowry.

A few weeks ago, Vijay Laxmi had fled from her house and stayed with her parents as Ram Sumiran often beat and tortured her.

Ram Sagar said the issue was sorted out with the intervention some relatives and Ram Sumiran took Vijay Laxmi to his house on Saturday evening. “Only a few hours after reaching his house, Ram Sumiran informed me on phone that Vijay Laxmi had committed suicide by hanging herself. Her body was found lying on the floor when I reached there and Ram Sumiran was missing from the house,” he said.

He alleged that injury marks on Vijay Laxmi’s body clearly suggested that she was tortured before being killed.

Station officer of Nagram police station, AP Singh said an FIR of domestic violence and dowry murder against Ram Sumiran was registered on the complaint of the deceased’s father.

He said the body had been sent for postmortem examination and efforts were on to arrest Ram Sumiran.

THE DECEASED, VIJAY LAXMI, WAS MARRIED TO FARMER RAM SUMIRAN ON MAY 25, 2012. HER FATHER RAM SAGAR ALLEGED THAT SUMIRAN HAD BEEN TORTURING LAXMI FOR DOWRY.
