Policy for alumni involvement likely
THE HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (HRD) MINISTRY MAY ALSO FRAME A POLICY FOR ALUMNI TO ENSURE THEIR GREATER INVOLVEMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTES.
If recommendations made during the recently-concluded visitor’s conference are accepted, alumni will soon play a pivotal role in reviewing the curriculum of higher educational institutes and policymaking.
According to sources, the human resource development (HRD) ministry may also frame a policy for alumni to ensure their greater involvement in higher educational institutes.
During the visitor’s conference chaired by the President, vice-chancellors and IIT directors deliberated upon the issue of outlining the role of alumni in the development and management of higher educational institutes.
According to senior HRD officials, participation in the review of curriculum taught at IITs, NITs and other higher educational institutes, enhancement of content relevant to the industry, funding the institutes, and having an alumni association in place are some of the recommendations made during the three-day conference.
“Across the world, alumni associations play a crucial role in the development and management of institutes. Not only do they help in funding, but also provide internships and placements. During the conference it was recommended that all higher educational institutes should form an alumni association,” said a senior HRD official.
As per the recommendations, institutes should prepare a comprehensive database with information on alumni, both as individuals as well as batchwise groups.
