Dadri, Udhampur blots on social fabric: Omar
ABDULLAH SAID A POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT IS NEEDED TO BRING INTO THE DEMOCRATIC FOLD DISGRUNTLED ELEMENTS
National Conference working president Omar Abdullah said the increasing incidents of intolerance and communal confrontation in the country has created a sense of despondency, which could have far-reaching implications.
Addressing a rally at Banihal, he said incidents like Dadri and Udhampur are blots on the social fabric of the country and will continue to haunt the nation’s collective conscience.
“In our own state, incidents like the murderous attack on a truck driver in Udhampur highlight the gravity of the situation. The PDP acted as a political courier to the alien ideology of intolerance and communal polarisation in the state at the behest of those who have always harboured a dream to fragment and polarise the state,” he said.
Abdullah said since the formation of the People’s Democratic Party, the NC has consistently highlighted its political nexus with the BJP and RSS, which is an open fact. He said a political engagement is needed to bring into the democratic fold disgruntled and disillusioned elements, but many core political issues have been sidelined by the PDP post its alliance with the BJP.
Abdullah said the entire political discourse in the state has changed with the BJP exerting complete and total control not only on the institutions of governance but also the political articulation of outstanding issues.
