FURY AVOIDED DRINKING WATER FOR FEAR OF BEING DRUGGED BY RIVAL
BOLTON: Tyson Fury accused Wladimir Klitschko’s camp of being “cheats,” saying Monday that he refused to accept any water after beating the Ukrainian in their world heavyweight title fight for fear of being drugged.
“I had good information off good resources not to touch anything in the changing rooms because they might try and drug you,” Fury said on his return to Britain following his shock victory over Klitschko in Duesseldorf on Saturday.
“I went home dehydrated before I even touched anything. I was so frightened of being drugtested and failing the drugs test.” ATHLETICS: KENYAN OFFICIALS SUSPENDED
LONDON: Three leading Kenyan athletics officials have been suspended by the ethics commission of athletics’ governing body, the IAAF, over corruption allegations and the “potential subversion of the anti-doping control process” in the African country. Athletics Kenya president Isaiah Kiplagat, vice president David Okeyo and 2015 world championships team leader Joseph Kinyua have been suspended for 180 days “in the interests of the integrity of the sport”, the commission said in a statement on Monday. MURRAY HOPES CUP CAN SPUR SLAM AMBITIONS
GHENT, BELGIUM: Andy Murray is hoping to take a leaf out of Novak Djokovic’s book by using Davis Cup success to chalk up more Grand Slam wins.
Talking in Ghent the morning after he gave Britain its first Davis Cup win in 79 years, Murray said that he was aware of what Djokovic went on to achieve after helping Serbia win the Davis Cup for the first time in 2010.
“He supposedly made the dietary changes in the close season as well with the gluten-free diet,” said Murray. “Obviously I will try as much as I can for next year. Enjoy it now but don’t let it go on for three weeks. It will definitely give me a boost going into the off season.”
