Mysterious blast kills 35-yr-old truck driver

LUCKNOW: A 35-year-old man was killed in a mysterious blast that took place in a garbage dump in Madiaon here on Tuesday morning. The man was attending the nature’s call near the garbage dump when the incident took place.

The intensity of the blast was so massive that the victim was thrown away from around 30 metres from the blast site. The blast also created panic in the entire locality and senior police officials along with bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot.

Santosh Singh, inspector of Madiaon police station said the deceased, Manoj Singh of Mainpuri, was a truck driver and he was on way to Sitapur from Kanpur via Lucknow. He said the driver was also accompanie­d by another Manipuri resident Gandhi, who was employed as cleaner with him.

He said the driver stopped the truck near Chatta Mill in Madiaon and went to attend the nature’s call near the garbage dump while the cleaner remained near the truck. He said the cleaner was alerted with the blast sound in the garbage dump and rushed searching for the driver but he was not found anywhere.

The inspector said police team also reached the spot after getting informatio­n about the incident. He said it was believed initially that the driver fell in the nearby drain following which a team of fire fighters was also called to rescue him. “Surprising­ly, the driver’s body was found around 30 metres away from the garbage dump. The body also had burn injury marks that confirmed that he died due to the blast,” he emphasised.

He said the remains of cracker like material have been found from the garbage dump and forensic experts had collected it for further examinatio­n.
