IT IS SUSPECTED THAT DAWOOD RUNS AN ILLEGAL EMPIRE OF EXTORTION AND CRICKET BETTING

NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday informed Parliament that gangster Dawood Ibrahim has bases in Pakistan and keeps shifting his location from time to time.

Minister of state for home Haribhai Chaudhary told Lok Sabha that India has, from time to time, been apprising Pakistani authorities of details concerning Dawood, including passports and his reported addresses there.

“The government will keep pursuing this matter through different channels to ensure that Pakistan and its agencies fulfil their international obligations in the context of the Red Corner Notice issued against Dawood Ibrahim and the relevant UN Security Council resolution,” Chaudhary said in a written reply.

Besides being the main accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, it is suspected that Dawood runs an illegal empire of extortion, cricket betting and pushing drugs into India.

It is also suspected that many a times, he has provided services to terror outfits to use his smuggling network.

Though Dawood fled from India to Dubai in the mid ‘80s, he is operating from Karachi in Pakistan after the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Pakistan has always denied the presence of Dawood Ibrahim on its soil.
