A young cyclist in action during a stunt show at the Guru Govind Singh Sports College in Lucknow on Sunday. Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on the occasion promised to include cycle stunt as a regular activity of the UP’s sports department.

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday emphasised the need of regular training to sportspers­ons at a very early age and said that only a good coach could produce a good player. He also promised all-round facilities to all the players in the state. “Potential for sports should be identified first and then the sportspers­ons of those discipline­s should be given serious training,” Yadav said at the closing ceremony of the three-day football coaches’ seminar at Guru Gobind Singh Sports College here. Three experts from Croatian Football Federation conducted the training and seminar.

Lauding the developmen­t of Croatian football, Akhilesh said the coaches’ training programme would certainly help Uttar Pradesh coaches produce good players.

He once again urged the people to take up sports on priority and said, “Instead of going for sports, people here remain focused on jobs.”

The chief minister also promised to do his best to give permanent jobs to ad hoc coaches, including those at the Sports College.

A cycle stunt programme was also organised. Minister of state for sports Ram Shakal Gujjar promised to include cycle stunt as a regular sports activity on the state government’s calendar.

Croatian expert Ivan Perlec termed sports as the best tool to bring people together. “It’s our love to football which has brought us here,” he said.
