HC contempt notices to 14 BSAs
The Allahabad high court has issued contempt notices to Basic Siksha Adhikari (BSA) of 14 districts of UP for not issuing appointment letters to candidates selected as assistant teachers in primary schools.
The matter relates to appointment of 30,000 teachers in schools imparting education from classes 5 to 8.
The above order was passed by justice VK Birla while hearing a contempt application filed by Pravesh Kumar Pateriya and 24 others. The applicants claimed that they were selected for appointment as assistant teachers but were not issued any appointment letter till date despite high court orders.
Earlier, while hearing a writ petition, the court had directed the authorities to complete appointment process for the posts of assistant teachers within a period of two months and ensure that appointed persons join their respective posts within a fortnight thereafter. The aforesaid order was upheld by the division bench in a special appeal.
On Se ptember 15, 2015, UP Basic Education Board, Allahabad, issued necessary order whereby it was directed that eligible candidates should be issued appointment letters in a time-bound manner.
Despite orders, the selected candidates did not receive appointment letters. While issuing contempt notice, the court asked the BSAs to explain by the next date of hearing why charges may not be framed against them for contempt of court.
