Delhi cricketers show support for Jaitley

-

Prominent names of the cricketing fraternity came out strongly on Sunday in support of Union finance minister Arun Jaitley who has been accused of involvement in corruption during his stint at the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

Delhi Ranji skipper Gautam Gambhir said during Jaitley’s tenure as DDCA president till 2013, cricketing matters were taken care of in a much better way.

Gambhir first tweeted his views: “Grossly inappropriate 2 blame @arunjaitley ji 4 corruption in DDCA. He was d one who got Delhi a proper stadium widout taxpayer’s money. Appalling to note some ex-players blame @ arunjaitley ji for all that’s wrong in DDCA. Whereas dey enjoyed plum posts in DDCA coz of him.”

He later told reporters: “I stand by what I posted on my (twitter) handle... in these last two years, cricket has suffered and we as players saw what happened before the start of (Ranji) season when there were no balls, no pitches.”

National cricket icon Virender Sehwag, who moved to Haryana before this season began before announcing his retirement, also tweeted his support for Jaitley.

“Was a nightmare to speak to some others at DDCA but @arunjaitley ji was always available for players in case of any difficulty at any time. In my time with DDCA if I ever came to know of any ‘surprising’ selection of a player, all I needed to do was to inform @ arunjaitley. And @arunjaitley Ji would immediately ensure cor rection and justice for th e de s e r v i n g p l aye r s at #DDCA.”

Indian Test team captain Virat Kohli also came out in support of Jaitley.
