BHU to implement flag decision by month-end
VARANASI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will have national flag flying on its premises after the institution’s centennial convocation scheduled on February 22. The university administration has started preparations to implement the flag decision by the month-end. The BHU is a central university.
Vice chancellor Girish Chandra Tripathi said, “We welcome the move by the centre. We also have started preparations for the same. Soon, after the convocation, a location on the university premises will be selected and the national flag will be unfurled. We will try to ensure it in February.”
The state government-run Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) has also welcomed the order to all central universities to display the national flag atop a 207-feet mast.
Ravi Prakash Pandey, chief warden of MGKV said, “The decision will infuse nationalism in one and all. The MGKV is a state university. As per current provisions, state universities receive instructions from the union human resource development ministry through the university grants commission (UGC) that apprises the state government of such developments. Later, the state government sends orders to the state universities.”
“As soon as an instruction or order is received, the national flag will be displayed,” Pandey said.
Sampurnanad Sanskrit University (SSU) vice chancellor Yadunath Dubey said, “I have read about the development. But it would not be appropriate to comment on the matter now. I will make a remark after going into the details.”
The SSU is also a state governmentrun university.
