Saumitra helps CAL enter semis of Chaudhary cricket

LUCKNOW: An all-round performanc­e by Saumitra Singh (63 runs, 3 wkts) helped Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow (CAL) crush Lucknow’s Indian Eleven by 80 runs to make it to the semifinals of the 8th Chaudhary Asif Memorial State Cricket Tournament in Barabanki on Friday.

BRIEF SCORES

CAL 202 in 30 overs (Saumitra Singh 63, Kritagya Singh 50, Mohit Singh 32, Amit Pandey 4 for 28) beat

Indian Eleven 122 in 25.5 overs (Amit Pandey 59, Manish Sharma 4 for 15, Saumitra Singh 3 for 32, Kritagya Singh 2 for 23).

AICC LOSE

The winning streak of the Lucknow’s Akhil Infra Cricket Club (AICC) came to a halt on Friday as they went down fighting to the Asian School by two wickets in the semi-final of the 8th All-India Uttarakhan­d Shaheed Girish Bhadri Cricket Tournament in Dehradun.

Despite scoring 225 in 38.3 overs after being sent to bat first, AICC bowlers failed to get all 10 wickets as Asian School romped home in 37.2 overs with two wickets in hand.

THRILLING WIN

CSIR New Delhi scored a thrilling 18-run win against IMD New Delhi to win the Prof Nayudamma Memorial Cricket Tournament, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Friday. After scoring 199 for three in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss, CSIR restricted the rivals for 181 for nine.

RUN FOR FITNESS

The second run for fitness by the Symbiosis Internatio­nal University would be held on Sunday. The 5-km run for both male and female athletes will kick off from the gate of the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium at 6.00 a.m. The first and second place holders would be given Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000, respective­ly, whereas 10 others would be given motivation­al prizes.

Shuttle rs from the Ba bu Banarasi Das UP Badminton Academy hogged the limelight in the Junior Badminton Championsh­ip, winning as many as seven titles, at the Vinay Khand Stadium here on Friday.
