After being stuck in one department for 27 years due to gender bias and indiscrimination of seniors, Shikha Saran, an employee of the irrigation department and native of Lucknow got justice after pleading her case before the state information commission. After state information commissioner Arvind Singh Bisht cracked the whip, the irrigation department transferred Shikha Saran from the mechanical to the civil cell of the department on November 3 last, after 27 years. “I got justice only after the intervention of state information commissioner Arvind Singh Bisht,” said Shikha.
It took Urmila Tewari of Lucknow 18 long years to get her deceased husband’s general provident fund paymentp from UPSRTC, where he was working as clerk. After running from pillar to post and writing numerous letters to the regional office of the UPSTRC, the hapless woman appealed to the state information commission. Within a year of filing of the appeal with the office of the state information commissionerc Arvind Singh Bisht ono May 3, 2014, Urmila got justice. She not only got her husband’s GPF amount, which was due for the past 18 years, but with interest added to the original sum.
More than 100 students running from pillar to post for several years to get their degrees from Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra, got a reprieve from the state information commission after a number of RTI appeals came up for hearing before the commission. During hearing of the case, Gajendra Yadav, state information commissioner, summoned registrar of the university KN Singh to his office to inquire about complaints against the university. After talking to the students, who had filed RTI appeals before the commission and registrar of the university KN Singh, the state information commissioner ordered distribution of degrees which began in October last. “After two years of passing out from the college I got my degree from Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra, only when I filed an RTI appeal with the state information commission,” said Ruqeyya Praveen of Shikohabad.
